The MFIS Furniture program is a volunteer-run garage. We collect, store, and distribute gently used furniture to visiting international students when they arrive in Madison. Our program provides them with essentials such as a bed, desk, chair and other items at a nominal cost. Students tell us they are so grateful for this invaluable service.

Furniture Open House:  Please check back here for the date of the next MFIS open house at our storage garage (see below).  A variety of furniture pieces will then be available for sale.  There is no need to register in advance to purchase furniture on that date.

Where? Our location is a storage garage behind the Dale Heights Presbyterian Church at 5501 University Avenue in Madison.

The NEXT Open House at our furniture storage location has not yet been scheduled.  Please check back.

Delivery? We are currently unable to deliver furniture. Students are responsible for transporting their own furniture.

Payment? We currently accept only cash or check for furniture payment.

What if I cannot find what I need? If MFIS does not have what you are looking for or volunteers aren’t available when you need furniture, try these thrift stores in the Madison area:

  • Bed frames: $10
  • Desks/Tables: $30
  • Chairs: $10
  • Shelves/Bookcases: $20
  • Chests of drawers: $40
  • Lamps: $10
Small items like kitchen tools, dishes, hangers, bedding items are free in small quantities to anybody who is paying a handling charge for other items and has filled out the furniture loan agreement.
